Update, August 18, 2026: This remains an owner-logged, Supervised trip — not a Tesla Robotaxi and not an SAE L4 certificate. Tesla later kept shipping the v14 line (Tesery covered v14.2.2.1 and v14.3.4). A single cross-country log does not make unsupervised FSD legal in every state.
On December 31, 2025, Tesla owner David Moss posted that he had finished a U.S. coast-to-coast drive on Full Self-Driving (Supervised) v14.2: 2,732.4 miles from the Tesla Diner in Los Angeles to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, in 2 days 20 hours, with zero disengagements — including Supercharger parking. Tesla AI VP Ashok Elluswamy called it the “world’s first fully autonomous coast-to-coast drive” on Tesla self-driving v14. Andrej Karpathy amplified the same numbers.
Moss was in the car. Tesla still sold the feature as Supervised. “Zero interventions” here means he says he never took over — not that the law treated the car as the driver, and not that Tesla dispatched an empty Robotaxi from Hollywood to the Carolinas.

What “zero intervention” means on this trip
Moss’s bar was: FSD stayed on for highway, city, and Supercharger parking; he reported no close calls. He told readers to check the WholeMars / community FSD database rather than take a screenshot as proof. That is owner telemetry plus a public post — useful, not a NHTSA test report.
Supervised FSD still requires a responsible driver. If the car had needed a take-over, that would have been his job. Completing the trip without one is a strong owner result on v14.2. How this sits next to Tesla’s old coast-to-coast promise
In 2016 Tesla talked about a car driving LA to New York with no one touching the wheel by the end of 2017. That date slipped for years. Moss’s 2025 drive is the first widely circulated owner claim that matches the spirit of that demo — camera-only FSD, one car, one seated driver, one posted log. It arrived about eight years late. Late is not “impossible.” It is also not “Tesla finished unsupervised.”
v14.2 is the same generation Xpeng’s CEO later called “near Level 4” after a Silicon Valley afternoon. That was a feeling. This is a mileage claim. Neither is an SAE rating. Tesery’s He Xiaopeng note is the quote story; keep them separate.

Was the car empty?
No. Moss was in it. Supervised means the human stays responsible.
Did Tesla officially certify the log?
Ashok and others congratulated him. Tesla did not publish a signed coast-to-coast test report. The primary source is Moss’s post and the tracker he cited.
Is this the same as Robotaxi?
No. Robotaxi is Tesla’s ride-hail product. This was an owner Model 3 on FSD (Supervised).
Can I repeat it on FSD v14.2.2 or v14.3?
Different builds. Do not paste this 2,732-mile claim onto a later point release.
For owners: a long highway log with no take-over is encouraging. You still watch the road. Build number lives on the car’s software screen, not in someone else’s X screenshot.
