Tesla's Model 3: Why the Spoiler Makes It Better

by JULIET YU on May 11, 2022

Tesla's Model 3 is one of the most popular electric cars on the market, and for good reason. The car is not only stylish and luxurious, but it's also eco-friendly and efficient. One of the best features of the Model 3 is the spoiler. The spoiler not only makes the car look more aerodynamic, but it also improves the car's range and performance.

If you want to add a little extra flair to your Model 3, spoilers are a great way to do it. There are so many different spoilers on the market, so choosing the right one can be a little daunting. But don't worry, we're here to help. In this article, we'll cover everything you need to know about choosing a spoiler for your model. We'll cover styles, features, and prices so you can make the best decision for your car.

Model 3 Spoiler Design

The Tesla Model 3 is a relatively small sports sedan, so a well-designed spoiler shouldn't overpower the vehicle's exterior design language but complement it. Its design should provide a sufficiently aggressive appearance while blending in with the compound curvature of the trunk upper surface and the trunk hatch edges. At the end of the day, the spoiler should look like part of the Model 3 — like it belongs there.

The spoiler will span the entire width of the boot hatch, following the lateral curvature of the rear edge of the hatch down to the panel gap separating the upper surface of the boot hatch from the upper surface of the rear fender.

The spoiler is designed to amplify the concave curvature on the back of the trunk hatch (where the Tesla "T" sits), emphasizing that curvature in a subtle but striking way.

The spoiler front and rear width will "blend" into the downward sloping longitudinal curvature of the upper trunk hatch surface, so the side view allows the eye to follow the rear hatch glass through the hatch itself and into the spoiler without any discontinuities.

Model 3 Spoiler Function

The spoiler can reduce the influence of the wind on the driving car. In addition to being beautiful, the installation of the rear wing can provide stability for the vehicle, especially for high-power vehicles when cornering or passing complex roads, the rear wing can play a certain role. It can improve the driving quality while making the waistline of the body more dynamic and beautiful.

How to choose

Tesla has a spoiler on the Performance Model 3. Attached to the top and rear of the trunk, it has a very flat profile that tapers off as it reaches the edges. I read that Tesla sells it for $660.

This is TSportline's aftermarket solution. It straddles the torso lip very hard to be OEM like. Personally, I'm not a fan of what looks like the great value equivalent. It Cost $499.

This is an RPMTesla product and I wasn't too impressed with the wavy finish. It's sized in the middle, wider than the TSportline, but not as wide as the Performance, and it's only attached to the top, which makes it not seem like it was purpose-built, like a general afterthought. This one currently sells for $316.

This model from Unplugged Performance seems to carry the most Model 3 DNA. It wraps completely around the trunk and has a very flat profile almost parallel to the top of the trunk. It's pretty cool, but at $695, it's the most expensive option.

This OEM from Tesery is true carbon fiber, from the glass roof to the trunk profile all the way to the trial edge of the spoiler, and it creates a nice clean line for a very clean look from every angle. This one currently sells for $329, and by a good standard, it's the best option.

Model 3 Spoiler Installation

It is attached using car double-sided tape.

Before installation, the car needs to be thoroughly cleaned, using isopropyl alcohol to clean the area where the spoiler is attached. This is to ensure optimal adhesion to the surface.

The spoiler rests against the edge of the trunk just enough to hold itself there. This makes installation much easier. Just put it on the lip temporarily without removing the tape cover and keep it as close to the center as possible. The best way to center it is to use the corners of the trunk as reference points for each side. You can measure the gap between the trunk corner and the nearest spoiler tip, then adjust the spoiler from left to right until the measurements are the same on both sides.

You need to ensure the exact location. Once the tape touches the surface, it is a fairly permanent adhesion. There is no tape on the inside of the lip on the spoiler to rest against the edge of the trunk. To do this, the tape is only a few millimeters from the surface, so slow, deliberate movement is a must. Doing this allows the spoiler to be brought very close to its final position without the tape touching the car until you actually want it. Once you get used to it, give it a long, firm pressure, slightly down but mostly forward. The masking tape was then pulled taut, holding it securely in place for a few hours.

The Model 3 Spoiler is a great way to add a bit of style to your Tesla Model It's easy to install and only takes a few minutes. Plus, it's an affordable way to add a touch of style to your car. If you're looking for a way to make your Model 3 stand out from the crowd, the Model 3 Spoiler is a great option.
