“Tesla Summer Driving Tips”

by LILucky on Mar 17, 2023

Tesla vehicles provide a comfortable and convenient driving experience in hot weather. See below for hot weather driving advice.

Temperature control function

Depart on time

The "Go on Time" feature manages both charging and interior temperature presets, allowing you to fully charge the vehicle and set the ideal interior temperature before you leave.

Presetting the interior temperature when the vehicle is plugged in can adjust the cabin to the desired temperature without consuming battery power, thereby saving power and optimizing cruising range.

Find "Depart on Time" in the charging menu on the vehicle's touchscreen, or select "Appointment" in the Tesla app.

Warm up using the Tesla app

You can remotely start the temperature control through the Tesla app anytime, anywhere, and perform temperature preset and cooling control in the car. Simply tap the fan icon on the home screen of the Tesla app, or select Temperature Control to adjust the temperature. Automatic ventilation directs airflow towards the seats to keep you cool when you enter the cabin.

Maintain temperature control

Keeping the climate control on keeps your car contents from overheating when you leave the cabin. To maintain cabin temperature when the vehicle is not in use, open the Climate Control menu on the touchscreen and select Maintain. The climate control system will continue to operate when the vehicle is parked and locked.

Dog Mode

Let your pet enjoy a comfortable temperature while they wait for your return. "Dog Mode" maintains the set temperature, and the touchscreen displays a message indicating that climate control is on and that pets in the cabin are comfortable and pedestrians can rest assured.

Before leaving the vehicle, select Dog from the Climate Control menu on the touchscreen, or Dog Mode in the Climate Control section of the Tesla app.

Camping mode

You can use "Camp Mode" to make your in-car experience more comfortable, no matter what the outside temperature is. Camp mode maintains the interior temperature and powers the vehicle's USB and 12V outlets, allowing devices to be charged overnight. It also lets you play media for hours on end, turning your vehicle into a powerful portable audio system.

Like Dog Mode, you can also activate Camp Mode through your vehicle's touchscreen or the Tesla app.

Compartment overheating protection

Enable to prevent cabin overheating when hold temperature control is not in use:

"On" means to use the air conditioning to prevent the interior temperature from exceeding 105°F/40°C.
"No A/C" uses less energy while providing a degree of cooling by blowing outside air into the car.
To activate, go to Controls > Safety > Cab Heat Protection on the vehicle touchscreen, or expand the bottom drawer in the Temperature Controls section of the Tesla app.

Note: Running the climate control system while the vehicle is not connected to a power source will gradually drain the battery pack. After using the above functions for a long time, the remaining power is expected to decrease. Monitor battery status on the home screen of the Tesla app.

Window ventilation

Lowering the windows before you return to the vehicle can help reduce the temperature inside the vehicle without consuming power.

To activate the Tesla app, go to Climate Controls > Ventilation.

The window "automatically" raises

Your vehicle has plenty of range for daily driving and supercharger-to-supercharger distances for longer trips.

For maximum efficiency and range while maintaining a comfortable interior temperature, drive with the windows up and the climate control set to Auto. This takes full advantage of the vehicle's aerodynamics and enables the climate control system to automatically adjust settings. In "Automatic" mode, the temperature control system reaches the desired temperature as quickly as possible and maintains it with minimal energy consumption.

Ventilated seat

Select Model S and Model X vehicles have ventilated seats for added comfort. You can use the Tesla app to cool the seats down before returning to the car. By default, the climate control system automatically controls seat ventilation based on your temperature settings. The ventilated seats can be adjusted manually via the Climate Control menu on the vehicle's touchscreen, or by dragging the one-touch controls to the customizable bottom bar.

To activate the ventilated seats through the Tesla app, go to Climate Controls, select the seat and tap Cool.

Accessories

Sun shade

Sun shades can help keep heat out of your car. With sun blinds installed, the interior air conditioner requires less energy to maintain the desired temperature. The glass roof and liftback doors are fitted with sunshades.

You can buy sun shades in the Tesery Online Store.

Roof rack

Roof racks allow you to easily load bikes, surfboards and more for summer road trips.

Tesla roof racks are designed to minimize wind resistance, especially with larger bike mounts and roof boxes. Wind resistance can reduce a vehicle's efficiency, especially at high speeds.

You can purchase a roof rack from the Tesery Online Store.

Tire

Use summer tires or all-season tires

Be sure to install tires suitable for the current season. In warmer conditions, summer tires provide excellent on-road performance and traction in both wet and dry conditions. All-season tires perform well, too, offering efficiency benefits as well as greater off-road capability. Winter tires should not be used in hot weather, as they are made of soft compounds that wear quickly in extreme heat, potentially resulting in reduced efficiency and poor handling.

Monitor tread wear and pressure

Tires wear out faster in extreme heat. Regularly inspect tires for wear, including the invisible inner rim. Please refer to your Owner's Manual for instructions on tire rotation and replacement on your Tesla vehicle. Never use tires with a tread depth less than 3mm.

As with other vehicles, tire pressure should only be checked on cold tires. Tesla recommends doing this before driving the vehicle in the morning. Driving even short distances can heat up the air in your tires, causing elevated tire pressure readings. Before towing a trailer, check your owner's manual for specific tire towing pressures and adjust your tires accordingly
