Tesla's Magic Dock Supercharger Network Expanding Across the United States

Tesla Magic Dock Supercharger installations are rapidly expanding in the United States, as indicated by data from a community-driven open-source website. This initiative aims to make Tesla Supercharger stations accessible to a wider range of electric vehicles, not just Tesla's own.

According to data from supercharger.info, Tesla has been consistently increasing the number of Magic Dock Supercharger installations in September. This month alone, Tesla has added 25 Magic Dock Superchargers, up from the 15 installed in August.

In the previous month, Tesla rolled out Magic Dock Superchargers in locations like Texas, Canada, and Alaska. Recently, from September 25 to 26, Tesla further extended its Magic Dock Supercharger network to include Montrose, CO; Moses Lake, WA; Vicksburg, MS; Craig, CO; Kremmling – Park Ave, CO; and Washington, IN.

Speculation arose earlier this year that Tesla was embarking on a mission to deploy Magic Dock Supercharger stations across the United States. Teslarati confirmed sightings of Magic Dock Superchargers being installed in New York and California. However, during the second quarter, progress appeared to slow or even come to a halt. This coincided with the announcements from legacy automakers like Ford and General Motors, as well as EV startups like Rivian, pledging to adopt Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS).

The potential widespread adoption of Tesla NACS could establish a new charging standard in North America, potentially making the Magic Dock Supercharger project seem redundant. After all, if other automakers embrace Tesla NACS, would there still be a need for the Magic Dock Supercharger network?

Tesla seems to have made a different decision. It's anticipated that it will take some time for Tesla NACS to become an industry-standard across North America and for other automakers to incorporate this technology into their vehicle designs. In the interim, Tesla's Magic Dock Superchargers are open for use by non-Tesla electric vehicles, ensuring that the charging infrastructure remains accessible and inclusive.
