Tesla's V4 Superchargers: Unveiling the 350 kW Charging Speed!

by LILucky on Jul 27, 2023

Tesla has finally laid to rest the speculations surrounding its V4 Superchargers, confirming that they indeed boast an impressive charging speed of 350 kilowatts. Over the past few months, Tesla has been unveiling these new chargers across various locations in Europe, but official detailed specifications were hard to come by.

When the first V4 Superchargers were installed in Harderwijk, the Netherlands, Teslarati took the initiative to reach out to the initial users and managed to gather exclusive information about these cutting-edge charging stalls. They discovered that the V4 Superchargers had undergone a 31 percent amperage increase, reaching an impressive 615 A, while the cable length had also been extended, presumably to accommodate other automakers' vehicles in the future

However, it wasn't until a new Development Proposal submitted by Enzygo surfaced (via u/RealPokePOP on r/TeslaMotors) that Tesla officially confirmed the charging power of the V4 Superchargers at 350 kW. This revelation came as a relief for many, as some cars were still limited to a maximum charging speed of 250 kW.

It's essential to note that not every electric vehicle that uses the V4 Superchargers will be able to access the full 350 kW charging power. The vehicle itself must be designed to support such high-speed charging, which is why Tesla has emphasized that the upcoming Cybertruck will be the first car equipped with an 800v architecture, enabling it to take full advantage of these ultra-fast charging speeds.

Currently, most electric vehicles operate on 400-volt architectures, limiting their charging capacity to approximately 250 kW. However, Tesla's move towards an 800v architecture is a game-changer, setting the stage for even faster charging capabilities.

Interestingly, other automakers have also taken note and are planning to incorporate 800v architectures into their upcoming electric vehicles. This shift promises a new era of rapid charging and further advances the adoption of electric mobility.

With Tesla leading the charge in high-speed charging technology, the future of electric vehicles looks more promising than ever before. As the automotive industry embraces these advancements, we can expect to see a proliferation of faster, more efficient charging infrastructure that will drive the widespread adoption of electric cars across the globe.
