D-Shaped Alcantara Steering Wheel for Model 3 Highland / Model Y Juniper
Model 3 Highland · Model Y Juniper · Alcantara
D-Shaped Alcantara Wheel. Factory Heating Kept. Finally a Grip That Matches the Highland Cabin.
A flat-bottom rim wrapped in genuine Alcantara, built on your car’s own electronics. Your original airbag, its cover, the button pods transfer straight onto the new wheel — around 30 minutes, no cutting, no splicing, no coding.
Fitment First
Which cars this wheel fits
This is a safety component, so we would rather you check twice. The hub, spline and connectors below match the facelifted Tesla steering column only.
Not compatible: Model 3 built before the Highland refresh (2017–2023), Model Y built before Juniper (2020–2024), and right-hand-drive cars. If your car has no heated-wheel function from the factory, the wheel still fits — the heating element simply stays inactive.
Why Owners Swap
The stock rim does not age well, and it was never shaped for your hands
It wears out before the car does
Owner reports of bubbling, peeling and a tacky surface usually start somewhere in year two or three. Replacing it early means you drive the whole life of the car on a rim you actually like.
It looks like every other Tesla
Tesla offers no factory wheel material or shape choice. The round leather rim reads as rental-car generic against the Highland and Juniper screens.
Thin rim, tired wrists
A narrow rim with no thumb or palm contour gives your hands nothing to lock onto. On a four-hour highway run, that shows up as shoulder and wrist fatigue.
No factory option to fix it
There is no Alcantara box to tick at order time and no sport rim in the accessories list. If you want a different wheel, you have to build one.
Alcantara is specified by the same suppliers that wrap performance-car and race wheels: it holds grip when your palms are damp, stays cool in summer sun and does not feel icy on a January morning.
What You Are Actually Buying
Four decisions that separate this wheel from a re-wrap
Genuine Alcantara, not synthetic suede
Grip improves as your hands warm up, sweat is absorbed instead of pooling, and the surface stays cooler in direct sun and warmer in the cold. It is also lighter than leather over the same rim.
Flat bottom, thumb rests, thicker grip
The lower rim is flattened, which drops your hands and opens legroom. Moulded thumb rests and a palm swell give you a repeatable grip point without squeezing the rim.
Automotive-grade heating, factory connectors
The heating element is built to the same working principle as the Tesla part. Your original airbag, airbag cover and button pods clip onto this wheel, and the factory harness plugs straight in — so buttons, scroll wheels and horn behave exactly as before.
You keep your original wheel
No core exchange, no deposit, no weeks without a wheel. Store the stock rim and refit it in under an hour if you sell the car or want to return to factory spec.
The Options, Side by Side
Tesery vs. re-trimming vs. a fresh factory wheel
| Dimension | Tesery Alcantara wheel | Re-trim your own rim | New factory wheel |
|---|---|---|---|
| Time off the road | ≈30 min, same day | Days to weeks without a wheel | ≈1 h at a service centre |
| Your original wheel | Stays with you ✓ | Cut and re-covered, not reversible ✗ | Replaced, old part not returned ? |
| Material choice | Alcantara ✓ | Depends on the trimmer ? | Original leather only ✗ |
| Heated function | Retained with factory element ✓ | Often disabled or left uncovered ? | Retained ✓ |
| Shape | Flat bottom, thumb rests, thicker grip ✓ | Original round rim ✗ | Original round rim ✗ |
| Warranty on the part | 6 months | Trim-dependent, often none ✗ | Covered by the vehicle warranty |
Comparison reflects how each route typically works in practice. A factory replacement keeps your vehicle warranty coverage on that part; a Tesery wheel is a separate accessory with its own 6-month warranty.
Three Ways to Drive It
Where the flat bottom and the Alcantara earn their keep
The daily commute
Cool to the touch in summer, warm with the heater on in winter, and no slip when you get in with damp hands after the gym.
Long highway stints
Thumb rests and a thicker rim let your hands relax instead of gripping hard. The flat bottom drops your hands and opens legroom for the drive.
Weekend mountain roads
Alcantara holds grip as your palms warm and sweat. You feel the rim loading up through your fingers instead of sliding across leather.
- Original airbag, airbag cover, buttons and harness transfer over
- Heated wheel function keeps working
- No cutting, splicing or coding at any point
- Not for pre-Highland Model 3 or pre-Juniper Model Y
In the Box & Fitting
Thirty minutes, one hex key, your own driveway
Take the stock wheel off
Disconnect the 12 V battery, release the airbag module together with its cover, unclip the button pods, then undo the centre bolt with the supplied 75 mm hex key.
Fit the new rim
Line up the splines and tighten the centre bolt to spec. Then clip your original airbag, airbag cover and button pods onto the new rim and reconnect the factory connectors — everything seats with a click.
Power up and verify
Reconnect the battery and start the car. Confirm heating, horn, every button and both scroll wheels before you drive. Then go find a corner.
What is in the box
- D-shaped Alcantara steering wheel
- 75 mm hex key, 10 mm head
- Protective shipping box
No special tools beyond the supplied key. If you are not comfortable handling an airbag module, have the swap done by a qualified workshop — the wheel itself is a direct fit either way.
Owner Feedback
What drivers notice in the first week
“The heated wheel still works exactly like before — that was the whole reason I did not go with a re-trim. Took me about forty minutes on a Saturday.”
@CA · software engineer“I am 6 ft 2 and the flat bottom finally gave my knees somewhere to go. The rim is noticeably thicker in the hand, which I wanted.”
@TX · contractor“No slip on a hot day with sweaty palms, which was my worry with suede. Cleans up with a damp microfibre and looks new again.”

Frequently asked questions
Will my heated steering wheel still work?
Yes. The wheel uses an automotive-grade heating element built to the same working principle as the Tesla part, and your original harness connects to it unchanged. If your car did not come with heated steering, the element stays inactive but everything else works normally.
What happens to the airbag, its cover and the buttons?
They all move across from your original wheel: the airbag module, the airbag cover, and the left and right button pods. Nothing about the airbag itself is replaced or modified, and no wiring is cut. Keep the battery disconnected while the module is out, store it face-up, and follow the factory service procedure. If you have not handled an airbag before, let a workshop do this step.
Does it fit a 2023 Model 3 or a 2024 Model Y?
No. This hub matches the facelifted column only: Model 3 Highland from 2024 and Model Y Juniper from 2025, plus Model Y Standard and Model Y L from 2026. Pre-refresh cars use a different spline and connector.
Do I have to send my old wheel back?
No. There is no core charge and no deposit. The original wheel stays with you, which means you can refit it in under an hour if you sell the car or want to return to stock.
Can I do the install myself?
Most owners can, with basic hand tools and the supplied hex key. The job is mechanical: unbolt, transfer the airbag, its cover and the button pods onto the new rim, bolt back up and reconnect. Allow about 30 minutes if you are comfortable, or book a workshop for the airbag step if you are not.
Does this affect my Tesla warranty?
Nothing is cut, spliced or coded, and the swap is fully reversible — your original wheel and connectors remain intact. Warranty decisions rest with Tesla, so if you have an active claim on steering-related components, ask your service centre before fitting.
How do I clean Alcantara?
Wipe with a damp microfibre and a drop of mild soap, then let it air dry away from direct sun. Avoid solvents, brushes and leather conditioners — Alcantara is not leather and does not need feeding.
What does the 6-month warranty cover?
Stitching, the heating element and the hub structure. It does not cover wear from rings, keys or abrasive cleaners, or damage from incorrect installation.
