Tesla Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS)

Newer Tesla Model 3 vehicles (typically 2021 onwards) and all Model Y vehicles use Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) TPMS sensors. Older Model 3s (pre-2021) and most Model S and Model X vehicles use Radio Frequency (RF) 433MHz sensors. For BLE sensors (used in newer Teslas), they often auto-learn within a short drive after installation, requiring no special programming tools. For RF 433MHz sensors, they typically auto-relearn by driving above a certain speed (e.g., 25 km/h or 15 mph) for a sustained period, though some older models or aftermarket sensors might occasionally benefit from a manual reset via the touchscreen. Tesla TPMS sensors, whether BLE or RF, generally have an internal battery designed to last between 5 to 10 years, depending on usage and environmental factors. When the battery depletes, the sensor will cease to transmit data, triggering a TPMS warning light on your Tesla's touchscreen, indicating it's time for replacement.
