Update, August 18, 2026: Nine million was a late-2025 snapshot. Later SpaceX/Starlink updates put the consumer base well above that — reports in 2026 cited 10 million, then 12 million+. Always read the live Starlink / SpaceX progress note. Tesery’s earlier Starlink V3 / orbital compute piece is a different product claim, not this subscriber count.
On December 23, 2025, the official @Starlink account wrote: “Starlink is connecting more than 9M active customers with high-speed internet across 155 countries, territories and many other markets.” It linked starlink.com/9M and thanked customers. Business Insider reported the same day that SpaceX had said 9 million users on Monday.
That is a company subscriber figure. It is not independent audited ARPU, and “active customers” is SpaceX’s label — typically service accounts, not every passenger on a Starlink plane.
Key facts
- What Starlink said: More than 9 million active customers, 155 countries/territories/markets, December 23, 2025.
- Prior marks (SpaceX’s own ladder): about 4.6 million in December 2024; 7 million by August 2025; 8 million in November 2025.
- Implied pace 8M → 9M: on the order of six to seven weeks, or ~20,000 adds a day if you divide a million by ~47 days. That is arithmetic on company milestones, not a disclosed daily dashboard.
- What it is not: Proof of 9,000 satellites, a completed V3 constellation, or Starlink profitability in a 10-K (SpaceX is private).
Starlink is connecting more than 9M active customers with high-speed internet across 155 countries, territories and many other markets. Thank you to all our customers around the world!

What “weeks after 8 million” means
The Tesery headline is fair if November’s 8 million mark is SpaceX’s prior public number. “Under 7 weeks” and “21,275 per day” in the old draft are derived, not a Starlink press-kit daily stat. If you quote a daily rate, show the division. Do not treat it as a telemetry feed.
Coverage also mixes residential dishes, roaming, maritime, aviation (later airline deals), and government. The 9 million line is the consumer/active-customer headline Starlink chose. Airline passenger counts, if published later, sit in a different bucket — see Tesery’s later American Airlines Starlink note.
FAQ
Is 9 million still the number?
No. Check Starlink/SpaceX’s latest progress post. 2026 updates were already higher.
Does this include every in-flight passenger?
Starlink said “active customers.” That usually means accounts/terminals, not every person on a connected flight.
Is this Tesla news?
It is SpaceX/Starlink. Tesery covers it because the same audience follows both. It does not change Tesla FSD.
For readers: a subscriber milestone is a demand signal. It does not, by itself, fund Starship or prove V3 orbital data centers.
